“The body as an architecture of trauma” – conversation with Magda Buczek, Monika Mamzeta and Marta Romankiv / 05.11.2025

The body is a space where emotions, histories and traces of experience — including traumatic ones — become inscribed. During this event, we discussed the body as a site of resistance, memory and transformation. The artists reflected on how embodied experience shapes artistic strategies, creative language and ways of narrating the self. The conversation also explored the process of reclaiming women’s bodies from the constraints of the male gaze, objectification and sexualisation. The discussion was grounded in Magda Buczek’s installation “Safe in your skin” and video performance “Close, too close”, which served as a point of departure for thinking about materiality, boundaries and the ongoing construction of identity.

„Ciało jako architektura traumy” – spotkanie z Magdą Buczek, Moniką Mamzetą i Martą Romankiv / 05.11.2025

Ciało jako przestrzeń, w której zapisują się emocje, historie i ślady doświadczeń — także tych bolesnych. W trakcie spotkania rozmawiałyśmy o cielesności rozumianej jako miejsce oporu, pamięci i transformacji. Artystki podzieliły się refleksjami na temat tego, jak doświadczenie ucieleśnienia wpływa na strategie artystyczne, język twórczy oraz sposoby narracji o sobie. Debata dotyczyła również odzyskiwania kobiecego ciała z pułapek male gaze’u, uprzedmiotowienia i seksualizacji. Punktem wyjścia była prezentacja obiektu „Safe in your skin” i wideo-performansu „Close, too close” Magdy Buczek, które otworzyły rozmowę o materialności, granicach oraz procesach autokonstruowania tożsamości.
